This preset is designed to recreate the mixture of distortion, overdrive, and saturation that comes with playing through a high-gain distortion pedal. It's similar in nature to the original "Floyd Tribute" presets, but this time around Arturia has altered transistor emulated circuits. Floyd was a guitarist who died this year. His name has become synonymous with heavy metal guitar playing so much so that his death sparked an outpouring of grief across the entire community of guitar players. Floyd had an untimely death due to cardiac arrest after leaving his home for work one morning before breakfast... In life, he was often cited as the best guitarist of all time. In death, he became a legend. Now that a year or so has passed since his death, younger players may begin to discover his music and imitate his playing style more closely. This preset is our way of paying tribute to him by recreating the sound of overdrive pedals through Arturia's software modular technology. Touching on Arturia's tribute patch directly is an odd choice considering it covers many different facets of what good overdrive sounds like to the modern ear. The original "Floyd Tribute" contains simulated tube overdrive, but the new one uses transistorization. While it has that same kind of "dirty" sound, the difference in the actual circuit is that the technology was changed to simulate something closer to what an actual Fender-style pedal would produce. The intended use of this preset is to be used with other overdrive/distortion pedals or with a tube preamp of some sort. Ask your local tech for a recommendation on a good amp to get into this effect that fits your needs and tastes. The ambient noise of a room can also factor into this effect too. Without an electric guitar plugged in, play around with the settings on this preset, use different amps, and get familiar with what you hear. If there is one tweak to be made with this patch that changes the sound the most, it's turning up the "Drive" knob. Only do that if you're using a tube preamp or another kind of overdrive pedal set before the amp because it will get loud. This patch has 2 different paths to choose from for each of its three effects. The first is "Dirty" which is an older algorithm based on op-amps. The second path is "Modelled" which uses Arturia's new transistorized algorithm. For this preset, there are no presets or variations that apply. There's just one patch to chop through with the compressor, distortion, and overdrive settings you choose. Arturia licensed this famous pedal from Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame for use in the preset name. A style of playing most associated with heavy metal guitarists, soloing with wah pedals has become somewhat of a staple amongst players of all genres. Often times it can sound like out-of-control chaos when performed poorly but pulls together quite well when done right. eccc085e13
